CFD Fluid Dynamics Analysis Course with OpenFOAM®

CFD Analysis with OpenFOAM®

OpenFOAM® is an open-source program that allows for CFD fluid dynamics simulations in various applications. It can be a valuable support tool for hygienic design of equipment intended for the food sector, or similar sectors such as pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, or biotechnology.

Objective

The course aims to make participants autonomous in creating and interpreting CFD analyses of low and medium complexity fluid dynamics cases.

Advantages of CFD Analysis

  • Design Improvement: CFD analysis allows for simulations and evaluation of fluid behavior under different conditions. This enables identification of potential problems or inefficiencies during the design phase and timely implementation of necessary modifications.
  • Time and Cost Savings: Using CFD analysis can reduce the number of prototypes needed to test and validate a new design. This saves time and money on production costs and development times.
  • Precision: CFD analysis allows for simulations of quantities that are difficult to measure (fluid velocities, pressure, temperature, concentrations), providing detailed information on fluid flows and system performance. This enables data-driven decision-making and improves system efficiency and safety.
  • Risk Reduction: CFD analysis helps identify potential flow problems and predict associated risks. This allows for preventive measures and minimizes the risk of accidents or failures.

Why OpenFOAM®

  • Accessibility: As the source code is freely available, anyone can download, use, and modify the software without paying license fees.
  • Customization: Open-source software allows users to modify the source code to adapt it to their specific needs, creating new functionalities and solving specific problems.
  • Active Community: There are several online communities dedicated to using OpenFOAM®, where users can find support, share information, and exchange knowledge.
  • Flexibility: OpenFOAM® is designed to be highly flexible and adaptable, meaning it can be used to solve a wide range of fluid dynamics problems.
  • Scalability: Open-source software can be easily adapted to work on high-performance computer clusters, allowing for solving complex and large-scale problems.
  • Reliability: As the source code is open, users can easily identify and resolve any issues or bugs in the software, ensuring greater reliability.
  • Standardization: OpenFOAM® is widely used and supported in various industrial and academic sectors, making it a standard in CFD simulation.

Target Audience

Design technicians and, in particular, R&D department technicians.

Participation Requirements

Some (even minimal) experience in CFD simulation, even with other software, is preferable. Each participant must bring their own laptop with a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu.
